IANANT Lifetime Achievement Award - Alice Mathew, DNP, MSN, RN
Alice Mathew, received the 2023 IANANT Lifetime Achievement Award.Alice Mathew’s journey into the world of nursing started in the footsteps of her aunt Aleyamma Mathew RN, who has been her role model in life and in her profession. Due to her passion for caregiving, Alice started on her career path straight out of high school, enrolling in nursing school to pursue her calling.
Following her graduation from nursing school, Alice ventured to Dubai, to join her husband Chacko Mathew, where she served as a staff nurse for six years. After this enriching experience, Alice returned to India, where she pursued further education, earning her Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) from L.T. College of Nursing at S.N.D.T University in Mumbai. Thereafter, Alice transitioned into teaching, dedicating six years of her career to educating the next generation of nurses.
In 1994, Alice set out on a new chapter in her career by immigrating to Dallas, Texas, where she joined the Parkland Health and Hospital System. Over the decades, she served in various nursing roles within the organization, leaving a mark on patient care and clinical excellence. In 2015, she was honored with the prestigious DFW Great 100 Nurse award.
However, Alice’s contributions extended beyond the hospital walls. In 1996, she became a life member of the Indian American Nurses Association of North Texas. She assumed multiple leadership roles and helped to overcome several challenges faced by the organization. She has nurtured and guided several aspiring nurses, empowering them to assume leadership positions within the association and make meaningful contributions to the nursing community.
Alice’s professional growth was strengthened by the mentorship of esteemed colleagues. Their guidance and support inspired her to pursue higher education, culminating in the attainment of her Doctorate in Nursing Practice from Grand Canyon University in 2018.
Alice retired from Parkland Health and Hospital System in 2021, her legacy continues through the lives she has touched as a nurse manager, educator, and advocate. Her dedication to the nursing profession and tireless efforts to encourage her fellow nurses exemplify the epitome of nursing excellence and compassionate care.
