IANANT LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD
IANANT Lifetime Achievement Award - ALEYAMMA IDICULA, CVRN

Aleyamma Idicula, winner of the IANANT 2024 Lifetime Achievement Award.“It is not simply the achievements we attain in life, but rather the person
we become as a result of those accomplishments.”- Curtis Martin
From a young age, Aley possessed an innate and spontaneous
empathy towards those experiencing suffering. This compassion led
her to pursue a career in nursing, and in 1973, she achieved a
significant milestone by graduating as a nurse from Philadelphia
Mission Hospital in India. The following year, she had the privilege of
working as a cardiac nurse at the renowned All India Medical Institute
of Science in New Delhi.
In 1975, Aley’s path led her to the United States, the land of
opportunities, where she embarked on a new chapter in her life. None
of this would have been possible without the love and support of her
aunt, Mrs. Annamma Joseph, who sponsored her journey. For two
years, Aley served as a nurse in the Coronary Care Unit at Brookhaven
Hospital in Dallas, gaining valuable experience and further honing my
skills.
Having successfully completed training in Critical Care, Aley was
fortunate to be hired by Medical City Hospital in the Department of
Telemetry. For the next 43 years, Medical City Hospital became her
second home, as she progressed from a Graduate Nurse to a Nurse
Manager for a remarkable 15 years. During this time, she also took on additional roles, such as Clinical Preceptor,
supporting and guiding aspiring nurses in finding employment. She embraced the challenges of working as an ER
nurse, a member of the clinical decision-making unit, a Cardiac Nurse at a Doctor's Office, an Infusion Nurse, and
even in Telehealth. One of the most significant achievements during her tenure was the recognition of Medical City
Emergency Department, as it became the first facility in Dallas to receive National Accreditation from the Society of
Chest Pain Centers for excellence.
Aley has received numerous awards throughout her nursing career, including Nurse of the Month, Nurse of the Year,
Clinician of the Year in emergency care, Nominee for the esteemed Great 100 Nurses, City Star of Medical City, and
the prestigious Frist Humanitarian Award in 2006, which recognized her commitment to high standards of
performance in the healthcare profession.
In 1997, she seized the golden opportunity to join the Indian Nurses Association and became a lifetime member of
this esteemed organization. In addition, she held various positions within the association, including Vice President of
the Indian American Nurses Association for two years, Fundraising Chair for a decade, Membership Chair, and a
team member for scholarships. Aley also dedicated her time as a volunteer for the North Texas Indian Physician
Charitable Foundation, Community Clinics, and the Independence Day Medical Emergency Team.
47 years of a blissful marriage to her loving husband have blessed her with three wonderful sons, all of whom are
happily married to their wonderful spouses and work in the medical profession. Their roles include a healthcare Vice
President of Operations, an ENT Surgeon, and a Hand Surgeon. Moreover, she is grateful to be gifted with five
loving grandchildren.
In 2017, an unfortunate accident resulted in a fractured right hand, ultimately leading her to retire from her beloved
nursing profession. However, she considers this event to be a second chance at life, a true blessing from God. Each
day, she strives to live life with gratitude, serving as a prayer warrior and a compassionate listener to those whom
God has placed in her life.
The words above, spoken by Curtis Martin, have resonated deeply with Aley’s own journey. it is not solely the
achievements we attain in life that define us, but rather the person we become through those achievements. Her
journey as a nurse has shaped her into a compassionate and dedicated individual, and she is forever grateful for the
opportunities and blessings bestowed upon her by the Grace of God.
